Basildon Towngate Theatre, located in St Martin’s Square, Essex, plays host to the Live and Unsigned competition. The 540 capacity live music venue comprises a main auditorium, a studio theatre, 2 large foyers, 2 bars and catering facilities, making it an ideal live music venue for performing bands and solo acts.

Live music, comedy, plays, community activities, conferences and exhibitions all take place at the Towngate Theatre making it a real hub for local and national events. The Towngate Theatre has hosted an array of musical legends from Tony Christie to the Searchers and is now the first port of call for bands playing Essex and the surrounding areas.

First opened in 1989 the theatre is owned by Basildon District Council and is run by the council’s cultural services section. The venue also has strong network links for transport and is less than a five minute walk from the town’s bus and rail stations with car parking available in the surrounding areas for those driving.
