Guzel, a beautiful Tatar songstress from the banks of the great Volga river, infuses her songs with her own embellishments – a natural, untrained voice, free from the encumbrances of traditional teaching methods - its range and distinctive timbre that gives joyful life to swing music - her own personality, born from a rich traditional Russian culture – and her own background and lifetime experiences shine through in the warmth of her stage presence, full of natural emotion, intensity and feeling - she brings to the west the “unexpected” side of old Russia, turning unheard of 30’s and 40’s songs into exquisite swing music, adding colour and her own improvisations to make this music new, interesting and different. She is not singing in her native language, and so the magic of her songs is founded on her interpretation of the lyrics (which often can be different for the same song !) and the way in which she makes them come alive and turn them into a performance. Seasoned jazz musicians, managers and audiences have come up to her and said “I’ve known this song for so many years and not until tonight, through listening to you, have I discovered what this song is really about”

I am a solo singer who is very keen to find a band to perform with. I study singing for a music degree at Canterbury Christchurch University. I am 5"2, blonde hair and blue eyes. I am friendly and confident on stage. Alot of my friends have been telling me I have very good vocals and I would like to try singing/performing as a part-time relaxation activity. I am definitely a beginner and I need some 'polishing' to allow me to give the best of my vocals.
