Play Brownstock Festival

Year on year Brownstock Festival receives thousands of requests from unsigned acts from around the region and across the UK applying to play at the festival, but spaces are always limited. So, for the first time, Brownstock have joined forces with the Live and Unsigned competition to give festival gigs to four acts to perform at the award winning festival! The lucky winners will be chosen from the Basildon Live Showcase Finals, as well as the overall Live and Unsigned 2012 champion, to play a slot at Brownstock Festival.

This may be a family run festival, but make no mistake – this is no longer a small festival. The 2011 festival sold out with 5000 festival goers coming through the farm gates. The main stage was headlined by Example. Brownstock was part of his sold out UK tour, and he was UK number 1 during the festival weekend. The main stage also saw Athlete, The Milk, Missing Andy, The Magistrates. Meanwhile Pendulum took to the decks in the 2000 capacity dance tent, alongside, Ms Dynamite, Zinc, ShyFX, Red Light, Killa Kela and Jaymo and Andy George. Meanwhile Brownstock HQ listened to over 500 other unsigned acts – and because so much of the festival is about new music 50 of these got their moment during the 3 day festival.

Jess Brown, Marketing Director of Brownstock Festival, said; “For Brownstock, working with live and unsigned is perfect. Giving a stage for Essex Bands to play to a proper crowd is what we have always been about. We are really excited about who we might come across during the auditions. We can’t wait.”

Live & Unsigned is the biggest unsigned music competition for original unsigned bands and artists in the UK. It offers the winning act the chance to play at The O2 in London alongside some of the UK's best musicians as well as £100,000 in prizes, including an additional new main cash prize of £10,000 for the winning act to spend on development.

Auditions will begin in January 2012 and all acts in the competition are auditioned live. Acts that make it through the audition stage will get to perform to industry judges, A & R associates and celebrity guests. Judging last year’s competition and hopefully set to join the panel again in 2012 include Radio 1 DJ’s Annie Nightingale, Ras Kwame,Tom Deacon and Daniel P Carter, Kerrang’s Alex Baker and Happy Mondays star Bez.
