Unsigned bands Feedback for the Live and Unsigned Grand Final Alternative category. The best unsigned bands from across the UK took to the stage at London’s O2 to perform in front of a massive line up of music industry judges and fight it out to be named the top unsigned act in the UK.
Judges presiding over the Alternative Grand Final included; Tom Deacon from Radio 1, Alex Baker who presents the unsigned show on Kerrang! Radio, Bez from Happy Mondays, Adam Perry from Bloodhound Gang,Paul Handley Director of Out of Bounds Music, Steve Russell Vice-president of TC Group,Head of Future Music Chris Grayston and Head of A&R at Future Music Ben Price.
The competition was hot and all the acts set the bar extremely high, well done to all the acts for putting on an intense show! The judges saw some outstanding performances and had tough decisions to make! Congratulations to all acts that made it through to the National Grand Final at Live Fest in London’s O2.

Fires and Fireplaces
Tom Deacon – Brought their fans. Lively performance and Enjoyable for all.
Adam Perry – Good lyrics and phrasing!
Ben Price – Original and upbeat. Good entertainment.
Gweido
Tom Deacon – Great lead singer and tight performance. Gave all they had.
Adam Perry – OK – Need more movement from band though.
Paul Handley – Good frontman. Engage even more with the audience.
Ben Price – Love the drummer. Nice and tight.
Jack Kenworthy Trio
Tom Deacon – Lovely vocals. Great bravery to end the song singing to the crowd without mic. Great.
Adam Perry – Great solid bass held the band together.
Paul Handley – Great vocals – work it!
Ben Price – Very talented boy. Much more polished performance than in previous rounds. Be careful with slight American accent creeping in.
JAG
Tom Deacon – Catchy lyrics. Great sound and tight performance. Owned the stage. Smooth.
Adam Perry – Confident singer.
Paul Handley – Tight band. Catchy song, liked it. A little dated though.
Ben Price – Dated sound, as smooth as it is. Very tight. Snappy looking frontman. Good performance.
New Subjects
Tom Deacon – Great energy on stage.
Adam Perry – Great interplay between singers.
Paul Handley – Great vocals. Work on originality and image.
Ben Price – Good timings on the rap. It works but more chemistry needed. Two good voices.
Nexus
Tom Deacon – They totally blew me away. Great idea. Fascinating.
Adam Perry – Very original!
Paul Handley – Very different. Great drummer! Try to engage the audience more.
Ben Price – Diverse, original and modern. But is there a market for this as recording artists?
Panning for Gold
Tom Deacon – Lots of energy. Fans were having it large.
Adam Perry – Slightly messy soundscape. Good vocal interchanges though.
Paul Handley – Work on those vocals.
Ben Price – Different and original. Disappointing cover choice. Rapping is much better than the singing.
Slick Minded Individuals
Tom Deacon – Original material. Great tight ensemble.
Adam Perry - Great original track with well crafted lyrics.
Ben Price – Shaky section in the middle, but it works well. Would be easy for three vocals to swamp the sound but it doesn’t.
Surreal Knowledge
Tom Deacon – Great fun to watch. Interesting and well-performed.
Adam Perry – Entertaining!
Paul Handley – Different. Work on originality in your music though.
Ben Price – Sloppy start. Make sure the vocals aren’t fighting each other. Lively, entertaining and unique.
The Robbie Boyd Band
Tom Deacon – Brilliant. One of my favourite performances of the day. Slick and professional.
Adam Perry – Incredible vocals! Fantastic performance.
Paul Handley - Awesome!
Ben Price – I was worried about the choice of cover but they made it work. Great original. Folky but commercial.
Tom Gee
Tom Deacon – Northern Soul never went away but I really enjoyed the lads take on Lady Gaga.
Adam Perry – Nice bouncing drums. Nice guitar solo.
Paul Handley – Work on those vocals. Choose keys of songs differently.
Ben Price – Cover started shaky, they pulled it together though. Not original enough for my liking.
Two Steps Twice
Tom Deacon – Loving a fat slice of SKA. Brilliant performance, one of real warmth and skill.
Adam Perry – Great entertainment!
Paul Handley - Great vibe. Work on those vocals though.
Ben Price – SKA with glamour. Fun and entertaining. A bit out of sync harmony wise towards the end though.
Upside
Tom Deacon – Nice harmonies and uplifting tracks. Always difficult to go last.
Adam Perry – Very impressive vocals.
Ben Price - Different and the girl looks ace! More harmonies between them would have been nice. Great climax!
