Music Contests Birmingham- blogged by Dee’vyne
Live and Unsigned music contests in Birmingham, have uncovered the best original, unsigned talent in the Region. The UK’s biggest music contest for original artists works to uncover the best unique, unsigned talent, such as Live and Unsigned Birmingham Area Finalist Dee’vyne, who has created a blog about her contest experience for the chance to win a great prize.
All music contests Finalists have been asked to write about their progression through Live and Unsigned to be in with a chance of winning a prize of £500 worth of recording studio time. The best blogs from the acts involved in this year’s Live and Unsigned music contests are going online for a chance to win. The best blog will be decided by which act receives the most likes for their blog on the Live and Unsigned Facebook wall.

Music in Birmingham -Blog 11: Dee’vyne
Music has always been an important asset within my life, and I have been singing since the early age of nine. I have always had a passion for singing, and knew that this was the career that I wanted to be in.
I have a church background, and have sung around the world, singing for Radio 1 and GMTV. I’ve travelled to New York, the Caribbean and many more places the list is endless!
I also write my own songs, which are usually inspired by the way I feel or the surroundings and society that I am in. Within my songs, I like to talk about positive things, which will hopefully inspire someone to live a better life.
I have written numerous songs throughout the years, and these songs are written either in poetry form, ballad, reggae, rap or soul, and they all highlight society and aspects of life in general.
When I first entered The biggest music competition in the UK for original, unsigned acts ‘Live and Unsigned’ I did not really know what to expect, but optimistically hoped for the best, and used this amazing competition as a way of expressing my talent to others and my song writing techniques!
When I got through the first audition, I felt relieved, and since then my music career has been nothing but an upward spiral, I have been thoroughly amazed by the exposure that Live and Unsigned has given to me, and my musical career. Since entering the competition, I have had numerous video interviews, and video clips of my performances, which have been vastly exposed on YouTube, and other online media, which has given me immense exposure.
Getting through to perform at both the Regional and Area finals has also been very inspiring for me, and I have gained further knowledge and techniques on how to involve the audience more in my performance, and can now see my future vocation in music more clearly, and am ready to take it in its entirety!!! I am thoroughly excited about the whole venture.
Alongside the performance aspect of the competition, I have also gained further knowledge about the music industry as a whole, which has also been inspiring, and am happy that I entered the competition. I would recommend the competition to any up-coming artist who is serious about their talent.
The genre that best suits my music is R&B with my own unique vibe. I also like to dabble in music such as dancehall, garage, any contemporary music, and come up with my own unique style. I believe all these assets can be used to complement each other and produce an effective song.
My inspirations usually come from gospel singers or R&B artists that have a strong message to portray, like Mary j Blige, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Jasmine Sulivan, Mary Mary, Miss lady Dynamite (the list is endless...)
I hope my songs can inspire others to reach their goals and live a more positive life. My saying to you all is: “Know the journey you’re on. Love yourself and you too shall be loved!”
