Music contests Portsmouth- Blogged by Asp

Live and Unsigned music contests in Portsmouth have uncovered the best original, unsigned talent in the Region. The UK’s biggest music contest for original artists works to uncover the best unique, unsigned talent, such as Live and Unsigned Area Finalists Asp, who have created a blog about their contests experiences for the chance to win a great prize.

The Area Finalists have been asked to write about their progression through the Live and Unsigned music contests to be in with a chance of winning a prize of £500 worth of recording studio time. The best blogs from the acts involved in this year’s Live and Unsigned are going online for a chance to win. The best blog will be decided by which act receives the most likes for their blog on the Live and Unsigned Facebook wall.

We’ve had a great response from bands and acts wanting to share their experiences of the Live and Unsigned music contests, and now they will be shared with you for the chance for acts to win time in a recording studio.

Throughout the weeks we’re going to put up an act’s blog entry from the music contest for you to join in the fun and read, if you like their blog, vote for them on our Facebook page by pressing the Like button or commenting positively on their work. The act with the most support for their blog within one week of it being posted will be the winner of the recording studio time prize.

The best of luck to all of our bands and acts who have shared their stories of the Live and Unsigned music contests - get voting for your favourite!

Blog 10: Asp

Asp and the magical journey of mystery through Live and Unsigned

So, everybody waits with bated breath for the next stage of Live and Unsigned; The Area finals at Portsmouth Guildhall. 'What brilliant acts from around the UK will get the chance to perform at The O2?' I hear you cry, and 'Will Asp get through the next round?' I hear you mutter through a mouthful of sandwich. (I should really stop talking to myself during lunch)

Well, these questions will have to wait to be answered, but what I CAN tell you is how the journey so far has been for those lovable rock gods from Bournemouth...

A long time ago, in a magical city known only as Portsmouth, four young men with one big dream (and some crisps, chocolate and several un-named brands of fizzy drinks) arrived to audition for Live and Unsigned.

The auditions were in alphabetical order so it wasn't long before the four were performing in front of a panel of judges. Within minutes they were given the fantastic news that they would be coming back to play at the Regional Final! Woo hoo!

For the next month, Asp practised hard, coming up with a great combination of AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' and their own 'Cat Scratch Fever' in a bid to win the judge’s approval. The day of the Regional final came around almost too quickly, but the lads were ready!

Soon enough they were back in Portsmouth with their instruments in their hands, ready to rock!

The day was a great experience. Being nervous and excited, and being surrounded by musicians who felt exactly the same way. After a long wait it was finally time for the awesome foursome to take to the stage.

Performing on the stage at Portsmouth Guildhall was an experience none of us will forget for a very long time. It was amazing! Looking out at a sea of cheering people, the lights, the sounds, the smells (too many crisps!) and all too soon it was over. Then it was up for the long, nervous wait in the dressing room.

Waiting backstage with all the other acts for the results was pretty exciting and nerve racking. We were really lucky to be the first act called out to go through. It must have been terrible to have to wait backstage hearing other acts called first. The feeling of knowing we were through and only one more step away from playing The O2 in London was exhilarating!'

Now Asp are busy preparing for the Area Final, at the Guildhall on the 21st of May, and with a bit of luck they might make it through to The O2!

Until next time, keep on rocking!
