Urban act Poetic Justin blogs about Music Competitions in London

Urban act Poetic Justin blogs about the Live and Unsigned Music Competitions in London. Live and Unsigned is the UK's largest music competition for musicians and bands to perform live. The music competition is about discovering the best original artists from around the UK, giving them the chance to perform in front of music industry judges and win fantastic prizes. The Live and Unsigned Music competitions have uncovered the best original, unsigned talent in the region, such as Live and Unsigned Area Finalist Poetic Justin, who has created a blog about his competition experiences for the chance to win a great prize.

Live and Unsigned Area Finalists have been asked to write about their progression through the music competition to be in with a chance of winning a prize of £500 worth of recording studio time. The best blogs from the acts involved in this year’s Live and Unsigned music competition are going online for a chance to win. The best blog will be decided by which act receives the most likes for their blog on the Live and Unsigned Facebook wall.

We’ve had a great response from bands and acts wanting to share their experiences of Live and Unsigned, and now they will be shared with you for the chance for acts to win time in a recording studio.

Throughout the week we’re going to put up an act’s blog entry for you to join in the fun and read, if you like their blog, vote for them on our Facebook page by pressing the Like button or commenting positively on their work. The act with the most support for their blog within one week of it being posted will be the winner of the recording studio time prize.

The best of luck to all of our bands and acts who have shared their stories of the Live and Unsigned music competition - get voting for your favourite!

Blog 7: Poetic Justin

And so here I am again. The same process, the same everything, except bigger. (I did Open Mic UK last year and in case you are wondering, no I didn’t make it to the final)

I was not expecting to go through, having brought a limited amount of people with me, but I did. I just had a feeling I would get through. Don’t ask! I just did.  But the next stage is going to be the hardest.

We will be competing against the Welsh.  (Gulp)  I would like to say that I have a chance, but with them in the picture I don’t stand a chance, no matter how brilliant I am.

Not only do they have amazing singing voices, they also have that in-built supportive spirit; they would travel to support their own, in hundreds, regardless of the distance.  Not Londoners. The replies I get from my “friends” are “I’m not sure what I am doing,” or “I don’t plan that far ahead, so I will let you know,”   I get so frustrated.  “Well,” I would reply, “if you are not sure what you are doing, surely that means you are free and can book the day off?”   Or “let me have your diary, I will help you make a decision.”   I mean don’t you guys agree that if someone is a friend they would want to support you no matter what.  It is only for one day, not every day. What is so difficult with that?  The worst of them are the ones who promise they would attend but then fail to show up, without notifying you of their change of heart.  You would think that they are the ones who would be performing on the night.

I think next year, if I want to enter Live and Unsigned Again, I am going to migrate to Cardiff.   Get taught by amazing singers and also get supported by real friends.

Anyhow, that’s my rant for my first blog, (and breathe) I will keep you posted on how my friends are doing.  Thankfully I have some really amazing friends who were there to support me and have always been serial attendees of all my performances. But it is time to add some more friends to the rank of good friends and I have picked up one or two in my journey as a soloist.

Well back to my music. Three weeks to compose something rocky and R n B-ish, with a hint of Michael Jackson.   Piece of cake! (gulp).

Good luck all!
