Auditions diaries from the acts #7

Audition diaries from the acts themselves from this year’s Live and Unsigned competition are going online in a bid to be in The List Magazine. A week ago we put a call out on our Facebook page for Scottish acts to tell us their stories from the Live and Unsigned auditions for the chance to be in the popular magazine. We’ve had an incredible response from bands and acts and the diaries of their experiences were just so good, we simply couldn’t choose which act to put forward to The List.

That’s where you - the Live and Unsigned fans and supporters come in, the bands and acts’ stories were so brilliant that we wanted to share them with you.  Each day we’re going to put up an act’s diary for you to join in the fun and read, if you like their tale, vote for them on our Facebook page by pressing the Like button or commenting positively on their work. The act with the most support for their diary by the publishing deadline will appear in The List magazine and be followed through the competition.

The Best of luck to all of our Scottish bands and acts who have shared their stories - get voting for your favourite!

Audition Diary of Steel Rose – Edinburgh Auditions 29th January 2011

Walking into the audition, we instantly felt out of place. Gigging as a glam metal band for over a year, we have grown accustomed to this. We had our doubts about going through to the next round because our genre is different to the mainstream music of today.

As we waited for our audition, we saw a well established Edinburgh band failed to get through, which dampened our spirits.

Playing in front of the judges was easier than we imagined and on a whole we thought it went fairly well.

Live and Unsigned is our first serious competition, the only other being a small, independent battle of the bands.

After waiting for some time, we started to think we hadn’t gotten through as bands that played after us were being told if they had been successful. Three other bands along with ourselves were the last remaining acts in the room when the announcer and camera crew came through and broke the good news. We were ecstatic and surprised to say the least.

Preparation for the Regional finals has been much more intense than it was for the audition. Choosing our cover song took just twenty minutes in a bar. The following week we book a rehearsal and tried to combine it with one of our existing songs. All that remains is to fine tune the medley.

Preparation for the audition however was different. We had to pick, cut down and practice one of our songs that we felt summed up our style of music the most.

Our most rock’n’roll moment so far (of many!) is without a doubt when the three of us threw a TV of a cliff…twice.

If you like Steel Rose’s tale, you have a week to vote for them on our Facebook page  by pressing the Like button! Watch out in the few days for some more diary entrants from Glasgow & Edinburgh.
