Audition diaries from the acts
Audition diaries from the acts themselves from this year’s Live and Unsigned competition are going online in a bid to be in The List Magazine. A week ago we put a call out on our Facebook page for Scottish acts to tell us their stories from the Live and Unsigned auditions for the chance to be in the popular magazine. We’ve had an incredible response from bands and acts and the diaries of their experiences were just so good, we simply couldn’t choose which act to put forward to The List.
That’s where you - the Live and Unsigned fans and supporters come in, the bands and acts’ stories were so brilliant that we wanted to share them with you. Each day we’re going to put up an act’s diary for you to join in the fun and read, if you like their tale, vote for them on our Facebook page by pressing the Like button or commenting positively on their work. The act with the most support for their diary by the publishing deadline will appear in The List magazine and be followed through the competition.
The Best of luck to all of our Scottish bands and acts who have shared their stories - get voting for your favourite!
Audition Diary of Goosedubbs – Glasgow Auditions 5th February 2011

Goosedubbs are a five-piece Rock/Indie band from Glasgow and have been together for around two years now. Gigs during this time include many famous Glasgow venues like King Tuts, Barrowlands 2 and headline slots at both ABC 2 and O2 Academy 2. Influences include The Libertines, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon. We write all our own material with songs being written by three members of the group. We also have recordings of our EP streaming on our myspace page.
Live and Unsigned is the first competition we’ve ever been a part of, we saw it as an exercise to see how well we could fair, and ultimately gain some exposure elsewhere in the UK. The biggest thing for us then was to get the audition right. We knew it had to be a strong song so we took a risk and chose a brand new song called Phoenix and shortened it down to two minutes. These couple of minutes became very tight after a lot of rehearsing.
We were pleased with our performance in front of the judges, which initially seemed quite daunting beforehand, but after chatting with them about the band we became relaxed and confident.
Following this was a nerve racking thirty minute wait to hear if we got through, we watched as other acts left disappointed. However, we were relieved and excited when we were told we were going to the Regional Finals. That moment will be up there with other rock’n’roll moments we’ve had, such as preceding San Diego band Dirty Sweet on their UK tour in King Tuts, and playing to a sell out crowd in ABC 2 with our band name in lights outside the venue.
If you like their tale, you have one week to vote for them on our Facebook page by pressing the Like button watch out in the few days for some more diary entrants from Glasgow & Edinburgh.
