Ipswich Auditions Feedback From Live and Unsigned Music Competition

Auditions took place in Ipswich for the Live and Unsigned Music Competition on Saturday 12th February at the Ipswich Regent Theatre. It proved to be the busiest ever Ipswich auditions with almost 500 musicians and singers auditioning. Also had some great media attending including Grapevine Magazine, Love Music 24 and the Ipswich Evening Star who all came to cover the auditions, so thanks to those great titles for the support!

Well done to all those who auditioned and especially the few who made it through to the Live Regional Final shows on Saturday 9th April 2011 Ipswich Corn Exchange.

Find below feedback for a selected few from the day who stood out for the right and sometimes wrong reasons.

Ashvelle – good front man and well presented. Song was well constructed.

Dirty Addiction – played well as a band all together.

Lauren Andrews – had a nice tone and a catchy song.

Jax Braithwaite – was a little shaky at the start, but did improve as she found her feet. Needed to flow better, bit of a stuttered performance.

Tom Blyth – needs to just tidy up his guitar playing, song was catchy though.

Dig Deep – bit of a mismatch of images, will need to work on that, but a bit different and a good sound.

Alice Band – lovely voice, really quirky tone and backed up perfectly with backing vocals and instruments. Very good.

A Deeper Dreed – front man had a good voice and performed well, was a bit robotic in his movements at times.

Matt Ekins – good song, but was trying to do too much, just concentrate on the song and performance.

Bob – very catchy track and good vibe.

Dillon Howling – nice sound, but needed better dynamics as the track was a little dull.

Chapter of Wolves – drummer had some intensity, could have done with more instrumentation in the breakdown build up.

Degenerator – great image, lead vocals was out of tune for a lot of the performance.

3rd Eye – different, had a nice vibe, but a little empty musically in places.

Nigel Elson – nice sentiment to the song, not perhaps catchy enough to be engaging as it needs.

Drive Through Therapy – had a good wall of vocals, which projected the chorus of a strong track.

Geek Star 5 – needed to have a fuller sound and have more lyrical content as a bit repetitive. Potential is there just need to develop a little further.

Ellie Hitchcock-Wyatt – lovely voice, need to get tighter with the keyboard playing.

Infuriate – metal band whose guitars back up the front man, need to perform more, as was a little slow to take off.

Keep it secret – were cohesive, but a little old school and had a very long instrumental, which is not best advised so early into a track.

Go Fly Win – sounded good; but felt like they were playing in isolation of each other at times, so look to work on performing together.

Fagan – good lyrics and dynamics, could have injected more energy into the chorus.

Frost-D – sounds great but as with many beat boxers it needs more, highly recommend bring in a vocalist for the live showcases.

I Cing – vocal group who can all sing well and chose a good song. Would work on a classier image and performance which needs to be tighter, as it was slightly out of sync.

Oliver Daldry – good song, just take care of guitar tuning.

Kerry-Alice Hartnett – nice voice, need to combat the nerves

Hilltop Mile – vocally could have worked stronger, drummer and leads vocals needed to give each other space.

Kaleidofly – great name, very powerful vocals, good dynamics and backed up well musically. Loved it!

Jordan Jackson – one word AMAZING!

Lost – catchy song but keys could have flowed better as they made it seem a bit basic.

Anna Pancaldi – Lovely tone to the voice and a strong track.

Black Vendetta – guitar suffered a little from tuning issues.

Floir Vine & Adam Dodd – lovely voice, really nice tone, but ditch the loop pedal. Guitar player needs to concentrate on playing and not making things over complex.

Poontang – all female group, need to work on the image and perform as one.

Verity Poulston – good presence, but need to watch tuning as singing often out of tune.

Vince Quill – backing track was poor and took away from what he was doing.

Motherfolkers – had real soul and depth to the sound. Quite a niche sound, would be interesting to see spread of fan base.

Kitty Norman – very rural sound and very good!

Eden – has a nice voice, needs to battle the nerves.

Osian Rhys – lovely voice and catchy song.

Freya Ray – took a while to get going, needs to speed that up a little, but good use of the loop pedal. It was very enchanting.

Mastema – started with impact and got a real good sound singing from all instruments!

Behzadmt – Great song, but needs a guitarist.

Pat Scanlon – Guitar all out of tune, shame as song was good.

The Blue Shades – good front man, good charisma.

The Reasons – lead singer needs to project his voice more and band need to be just generally tighter.

Tom Prior and the Gents – lots of potential, but a bit loose in places, with perhaps a little too much going on musically at times, let the song breathe like a good wine.

Purple Set – need to be better rehearsed and never stop!

Shadows Embrace – need to have a fuller sound, they have time to develop.

Trigga boo – like the name and performed the song well.

The Wasted Youth – huge potential, just need to watch keeping the tempo all together.

The Pursuit – polished musically and vocally.

Too Late the Future – lovely, powerful vocals from the front man.

Two Steps Twice – very fun! And well performed.

Any Last Words – musically good, but need a lead vocalist, sorry guys!
