Glasgow Auditions Feedback from Live and Unsigned Music Competition

Auditions took place in Glasgow for the Live and Unsigned Music Competition on Saturday 5th February at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. It was a big turn out, with over 500 musicians and singers auditioning from all over Scotland and Ireland! Well done to all those who auditioned and especially the few who made it through to the Live Regional Final shows on Saturday 12th March.

Find below feedback for a selected few from the day who stood out for the right and sometimes wrong reasons.

Glasgow Auditions

Emma Jane - One to watch, nice voice tone and looked good.

Flux - Great potential, good song and well rehearsed. Need time to develop.

Dalzel - Potential, good song good lead singer but the break down needed more to it.

Black Wild - Long intro, enjoyed the music but the singer was perhaps started a bit weak.

The Clameens - made the trip all the way from Ireland had a good heartbeat to the band drummer showed great passion guitarist need to give more performance.

Against the Oath - guitars and drums were good and had a strong sound but the vocals didn’t sit quite right.

Audio King - Something a little bit different. good lead singer but the backing vocals were flat.

Dirty Cannon - Wall of sound, great! Very talented vocalist with a good vocal range.

Bobby Grover -nice sentiment to the song but musically with the loop pedal a bit messy needed a cleaner sound

Little Ash - good voice but the guitar was a little messy.

Callum Baird - Really strong vocals but would work better without the mouth organ. Good song.

Black Mambos - another band from Ireland making the trip over had a funky vibe with a difference. Very well delivered.

Dusk Till Dawn - good tight sound,

Dead Man’s stand - performed as a band and were well rehearsed. Song had a single potential.

Flaviyake – strong backing track but needed a more energetic performance.

Andrew Brand – good song and vocals

The Baltics – keyboard has potential but needs more meat to it.

Daydream Frenzy -Track seemed to need more to it, but vocally it was a strong performance.

Double Trouble – Good voices but would benefit from more complex harmonies and also stage presence needs work.

Cyanide Faction – These guys had attitude!

Dawns Club – Good musicianship and song but the vocals need developing.

David & Kevin – Good vocals and well projected.

Chasing Amy – great personality which should translate well to the main stage!

Julie Agnew – good range and distinctive husky voice.

Paul Barrowman – connected well with the judges.

Jodie Marie-Cullen – great voice!

Scott Abercrombie- needs to find a band can certainly play but not enough to play guitar solo.

Kings and Scamps – Different, very good vocals.

Goosedubbs – Good arrangement.

Horizon – funky guitar, tight set, good vocals, one to watch!

Paul Graham - acoustic song lacked dynamics to drive home a hook. Nice voice.

Joanne Hannah – good vocal, nearly there!

Kate Dunn & the Redundants – original fresh sound, very current. Brass section especially good.

Frakture -liked what we heard but needed a fuller sound demonstrated by a lot of bands the same day, sounded a little empty at times.

Graham Gray – good voice but the song was a bit monotone.

Danielle Hutchinson- showed real potential but needs to be more rehearsed. Very nice voice.

Free Speech – need more practice and be more aware of each other when playing.

Monosix – very tight with a good tempo.

Loud n Proud- back for another go after making it to the area final. Mind that the performance doesn’t become too staged and over rehearsed and hopefully go one stage further.

Ghost Ride the Whip – nice sound and the vocals were very good.

Pamela McCorgrey- nerves affected the performance need to try and combat them going forward.

Femme Fidel- perform the track more to back up an otherwise good song.

Matthew MacConnell – good but needs more originality.

Lord Luken – very good, had us wanting to sing along!

Mario Marcino- performed a cover had a lovely voice but needs to be original for Live and Unsigned.

Catie Pilgrim- really catchy song and great delivery.

Mocker – really good beat.

Payton Place -one of the best of the day looked great, tight set and catchy!

Bronagh – Looked great, lovely controlled vocal and good keyboard work!

Lethal Tender- needed more performance to back up the song.

Lithium Baby- auditioning again after not quite making it through at Edinburgh but it needed to be a bit more upbeat with more passion.

Dave Lennard- Elvis is alive!

Vicki Lynch- auditioning after entering 3 years ago as a solo act and making the showcase finals this time trying to make the regional final with her band.

The Strike Nineteens -really catchy song.

Ngoni Namate –the original song really showcased the potential not sure why didn’t perform it in the first place so good job Judges asked!

Ramzy Ross -played every instrument on the backing track;impressive!Sailed through.

Little Eye – Foot tapping tune. Good sound. Great for first gig together!!

Midnight Thursday – Good tune with pleasant harmonies.

Shiney- need to let the lady lead the band not clear who is the front person and she needs to be allowed to shine...excuse the pun!

Steel Point- another Irish band making the journey.  Good energy but vocals didn’t really cut through with a catchy hook.

Radiola- nice musicianship but again needed more of a vocal hook.

Sonic Templars -strong sound backing vocals a little out of tune.

The 585’s -was a fun and engaging song need to just inject that fun into the performance.

Russian Ninja’s- need to all perform,guitarists not doing much.

Shake – Good vocals.

Annika – not sure the backing vocals add anything to the act.

Sara Hunter – Another act that needs to perform more to the track.

We free men -musically excellent he but image was a little dated.

Viking Galaxy– Wow,Viking space cadets...going to have to check out the video footage!
