Martel Maxwell
Entertainment Expert and BBC Radio Scotland Presenter
Martel’s career is both extensive and diverse. After training to be a lawyer at Edinburgh University, she applied to national newspaper The Sun and beat 3, 000 other hopefuls to gain a place on their trainee scheme. She trained in news, features, sport and motoring and it wasn’t long before her flair for the industry was noticed.
After working for the Daily Telegraph in Sydney, she became a full time Entertainments Writer and broke world exclusive stories and interviewed hundreds of stars. She’s co hosted BBC Radio Scotland’s The Music Bed and interviewed and reviewed gigs for some of the biggest acts in the world including Oasis and Kasabian. Last year she judged T In The Park’s BBC Introducing stage alongside Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Edith Bowman, so her eye for unsigned music is undeniable.
Martel has also worked in television, co presenting Scotland’s prime time motoring programme Drivetime on STV and she’s worked as an undercover reporter for BBC3 pilot Don’t Get Screwed.
Currently, Martel freelances in radio and television and writes a weekly column for the Scottish Sun. She is also a regular Entertainment commentator on Sky News, This Morning and BBC Radio Scotland and is a well known pundit on BBC3, Five and Living TV. To top it off, Martel is set to release her first book this year!
